The HondaJet Named Wyndham Championship’s Official Light Jet

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The HondaJet, the world’s most advanced light jet, is the Wyndham Championship’s Official Light Jet, the tournament announced today. The 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-17, 2014 at Sedgefield Country Club.

“Honda Aircraft Company is proud to sponsor the Wyndham Championship. This tournament, and its commitment to the Piedmont Triad, is a good match for the HondaJet and our company,” said Honda Aircraft Company President and CEO Michimasa Fujino. “Our goal is to be a company that society wants to exist and value the opportunity to contribute to the community.”

As part of its participation in the 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship, Honda Aircraft will have a presence in the Fan Expo along the tournament’s main entrance. In addition, the company is making a significant commitment to the Wyndham Championship’s “Birdies Fore Backpacks” charitable effort to fight childhood food insecurity by providing nutritionally-sound meals for children to take home over the weekend. These children can then come to school on Mondays ready to focus on schoolwork.

Headquartered at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C., Honda Aircraft has more than 1,000 people working at the company. The company is responsible for the research, development, sales, marketing and manufacturing of the HondaJet, the world’s most advanced light jet.

The HondaJet is in the final phase of certification flight testing as it advances toward Federal Aviation Administration type certification and entry into service in 2015. The light jet’s distinctive design incorporates advanced technologies and concepts. The HondaJet patented Over-The-Wing Engine Mount (OTWEM) configuration, natural laminar flow wing and fuselage nose, and composite fuselage were developed from extensive research activities. These innovations combine to make the HondaJet the fastest, most spacious and most fuel-efficient jet in its class.

The HondaJet flies at a maximum cruise speed of 420 knots (483 mph) and has a maximum altitude of 43,000 feet. The aircraft can travel at an NBAA IFR range of 1,180 nautical miles (1,357 miles). At 66 cubic feet, the HondaJet boasts the largest baggage capacity — up to six golf bags — over other jets in its class.

“We are proud to welcome HondaJet as the Official Light Jet of the Wyndham Championship,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “Honda Aircraft Company is growing quickly at Piedmont Triad International Airport, and we are very happy they have chosen the Wyndham Championship as a way to support their community. I feel sure our sponsors and PGA TOUR golfers will be very interested in the HondaJet. I am confident our relationship will grow further in the future.”
