Wyndham Championship Hosts Junior Golf Summit

GREENSBORO, N.C. – As part of its long-term dedication to growing junior golf, the Wyndham Championship will host a Junior Golf Summit during its 75th anniversary tournament week, the tournament announced today.  The 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-17, 2014 at Sedgefield Country Club.

Executives representing some of the biggest entities in golf will participate in the Junior Golf Summit at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15 at the Grandover Resort located just minutes from Sedgefield Country Club where the second round of the 75th Wyndham Championship will be underway.  Stephen Hamblin, the executive director of the American Junior Golf Association, The First Tee national chief operating officer Kelly Martin, PGA of America director of women’s and new market initiatives Sandy Cross, Carolinas Golf Association executive director Jack Nance and SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio commentator John Maginnes will participate in the summit.  Wyndham Championship tournament director Mark Brazil, who worked at the American Junior Golf Association earlier in his career, will serve as the moderator.  Admission is free of charge.

The Junior Golf Summit is designed as an opportunity for parents and junior golfers alike to learn about the opportunities available to them through these four vital organizations.  Junior golfers from the local area and many of the best junior golfers in the country will be invited with their parents.  The event is also open to the general public.  The panel will address such topics as how to get involved in junior golf, learning the game and beginning to play tournaments with the hope of reaching the American Junior Golf Association level and eventually earning a college scholarship.  In addition, the panel will discuss the role each of the represented entities plays in the process.

“With our support of The First Tee of the Triad, our local clinics with Sunbrella and our partnership with the AJGA, the Wyndham Championship is totally committed to Junior Golf on all levels,” Brazil said.  “I’m really looking forward to our inaugural Junior Golf Summit.  We have a first-class panel with a ton of experience in the world of Junior Golf, and I am confident it will be an outstanding event.”

Junior golfers participating in the clinic will receive free t-shirts, and following the clinic, participants can attend the second round of the Wyndham Championship free of charge.  Busses will be available to transport people attending the clinic from Grandover to Sedgefield and back.

Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2014 and contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the sixth-oldest event on the PGA TOUR excluding the Majors.  Tickets are available at Piedmont Triad Harris Teeter locations, wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office.  The tournament thanks title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide, presenting sponsor BB&T and Premier Partners, Cadillac, Harris Teeter, Lincoln Financial, McConnell Golf, New Breed Logistics, Sunbrella®, Technology Concepts & Design, Inc. and VF Corporation for their continued support.  Additional tournament information, including ticket packages and sponsorship information, is available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office at (336) 379-1570.  For more information about Wyndham Worldwide, please visit www.wyndhamworldwide.com.  Stay connected with the Wyndham Championship through its social media channels, including the Wyndham Championship Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, Flickr and YouTube.
