Major Champions Join Wyndham Championship Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  One day after three past champions joined the 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship field, Major championship winners Padraig Harrington and Retief Goosen have added their names to the list of players planning to play the Donald Ross-designed masterpiece at Sedgefield Country Club next month, the tournament announced today.  The 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-17, 2014 at Sedgefield Country Club.

These players join a field that also includes former Wyndham winners Brandt Snedeker, 2012 U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson and defending champion Patrick Reed.  Harrington is a three-time Major winner.  He has made two Wyndham Championship appearances with his best finish coming in 2011 when he finished tied for 47th.  The Irish golfer missed the cut last year. He is a five-time PGA TOUR winner with 16 international victories.  He has made just 13 PGA TOUR starts this season; he is 187th in the FedExCup point standings and 241st in the Official World Golf Rankings.

RetiefGoosenGoosen is a two-time U.S. Open champion and will make his third appearance at the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event.  He last played the here in 2011 and finished tied for 17th – his best finish in two previous appearances.  A native of South Africa, Goosen is a seven-time PGA TOUR winner with 24 international victories to his credit.  He is 101st in the current FedExCup point standings and 201st in the Official World Golf Rankings.

“Padraig Harrington and Retief Goosen are two of the biggest names in golf and have been for more than 10 years; we are ecstatic that they are playing the Wyndham this year,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “These guys have won a ton of tournaments around the world including five majors.  We’re very happy they have chosen to play the Wyndham again.”
