Wyndham Championship Creates List of Top-75 Moments In Tournament History

GREENSBORO, N.C. – As part of its 75th anniversary celebration, the Wyndham Championship has created a list of the top-75 moments in tournament history, and the moments will be released daily during the 75 days leading up to this year’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today.  The 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-17, 2014 at Sedgefield Country Club.

The Wyndham Championship is the sixth-oldest event on the PGA TOUR excluding the majors, and the event founded in 1938 enjoys a history filled with World Golf Hall of Fame winners and seemingly endless stories befitting an event of its stature. This Saturday, May 31, the tournament will release its 75th biggest moment, and each day, the next moment will be revealed on one of the tournament’s social media channels.

After one moment is released each day between Saturday and tournament week, the No. 1 moment in tournament history will be revealed on Wednesday, Aug. 13, the day before the 75th annual Wyndham Championship begins.  In addition, as each moment is posted on Wyndham Championship Facebook page, Twitter or Instagram, it will also be added to the growing list of moments which will be available at wyndhamchampionship.com so fans can keep up with the list of incredible stories that are sure to renew decades of memories for PGA TOUR golf fans.

“This list of our 75 greatest moments evolved into a very interesting look back at our tournament’s history,” tournament director Mark Brazil said.  “We have 17 winners that are members of the World Golf Hall of Fame.  We have incredible stories about eight-time champion Sam Snead and fellow hall of famers Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player just to name a few.  We’ve had tournaments delayed by snow and others postponed by major events in our nation’s history so it really is an interesting look back in time.”

The list is comprised of tournament memories submitted by local and national members of the media, Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation Board members, former tournament officials and current tournament staff.  Then a committee of current and former members of the media, tournament officials and tournament staff whittled the massive list down to 75 and culled it into order.

Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2014 and contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the sixth-oldest event on the PGA TOUR excluding the Majors.  Tickets are available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office.  The tournament thanks title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide, presenting sponsor BB&T and Premier Partners, Cadillac, Harris Teeter, Lincoln Financial, McConnell Golf, New Breed Logistics, Sunbrella®, Technology Concepts & Design, Inc. and VF Corporation for their continued support.  Additional tournament information, including ticket packages and sponsorship information, is available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office at (336) 379-1570.  For more information about Wyndham Worldwide, please visit www.wyndhamworldwide.com.  Stay connected with the Wyndham Championship through its social media channels, including the Wyndham Championship Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, Flickr and YouTube.
