Upgraded Fan Amenities, Chances to Win Vacations Highlight Media Day

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 74th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 12-18, 2013 at Sedgefield Country Club.  Wyndham Championship fans will have access to some new and improved amenities as well as opportunities to win Wyndham Rewards points and vacation vouchers.  Some pre-tournament notes are below.

Wyndham Vacation Rentals Hospitality & Sweepstakes; Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse:.  Located behind the 10th green, the Wyndham Vacation Rentals Hospitality & Sweepstakes Tent makes its Wyndham Championship debut this year.  Wyndham Vacation Rentals will award one $2,000 travel voucher every day, Wednesday through Sunday to lucky fans who stop by the 10th green to enter the sweepstakes.   Excellent concessions are available for purchase at this location including some signature items from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.

Regionalism Day:  For several years, the Wyndham Championship has been promoting Piedmont Triad regionalism through the PGA TOUR event.  Regionalism Day returns on Thursday of tournament week this year in an effort to bring young professionals from throughout the region together for the day at the Wyndham. The day begins with the Champions Breakfast at the Grandover Resort where the keynote speakers will be former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles who is now president emeritus of the University of North Carolina and Stephen P. Holmes, chairman and CEO of Wyndham Worldwide. From the breakfast, attendees will move to Sedgefield to watch golf before attending the BB&T Triad Community Lunch.  The day ends with the Triad Community reception back at Sedgefield.

Tropical Wear Contest Returns: Fans attending the Wyndham Championship next month will have a chance to win a vacation from Wyndham – the only catch is they’ll have to dress in their best tropical wear to win the second-annual Wyndham Championship Tropical Wear Contest.

On Saturday, Aug. 17 during the third round of the Wyndham, Piedmont Triad golf fans should come to Sedgefield in their most creative tropical outfit.  Tropical wear such as beach hats, sandals, Hawaiian shirts, shorts, skirts, grass skirts, sarongs, cover-ups, scuba gear, etc. are examples of acceptable contest attire.  Thong bikinis and other clothing that is not widely considered family friendly will not be eligible for the contest.

Wyndham Championship officials will be on the course Saturday looking for the best, most creative tropical outfits, and those fans whose outfits warrant tournament staff to take a picture will be invited to participate in the contest. Margaritaville at the Wyndham, which is located adjacent to the Sedgefield Clubhouse, will play host for the contest to be held promptly at 4 p.m. Tropical wear-clad fans can also participate in the contest by simply showing up at Margaritaville at the Wyndham prior to judging on Saturday to be a part of the official contest.  WKRR – Rock 92 morning show hosts Chris Kelly and Biggie as well as Katie & Jared from WKZL Morning Show will judge the competition.

First place will receive a seven-night Wyndham stay from a Resort Condominiums International-affiliated resort.  Second place will receive a three-night stay at a Club Wyndham Plus Vacation Resort, and third place will receive a two-night stay at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort at Bonnet Creek.

One Million Wyndham Reward Points to a Fan; Hole-in-One Contest:  PGA TOUR players have an opportunity to win “Vacations for Life” courtesy of Wyndham Vacation Ownership.  The first player during the tournament to make a hole-in-one on the par three 16th hole will be awarded the prize while their caddy will receive a one-week vacation stay at a Wyndham Vacation Ownership property.  Immediately after a PGA TOUR golfer makes a hole-in-one at the 16th, one lucky tournament attendee who registered at the Key to Wyn will be awarded 1 Million Wyndham Reward points.  The name will be drawn from all attendees who registered at Key to Wyn prior to the professional golfer making the hole-in-one.

Adventure Zone presented by Sunbrella: The Adventure Zone presented by Sunbrella replaces the Sunbrella Kids Zone from last year.  Adventure Zone presented by Sunbrella will include a bouncy house and an inflatable slide, a putting challenge and more.  Adults and older kids can try the new rock-climbing wall, get a caricature of themselves done or try out some new golf clubs at the Golfsmith hitting bay – just like they would on vacation.  Located adjacent to the main entrance, the Adventure Zone presented by Sunbrella is completely in the shade.

Ticket Bargains at Harris Teeter and Golfsmith on Wendover: As in year past, fans wishing to attend the Wyndham Championship inexpensively can find a bargain at all Piedmont Triad Harris Teeter locations.  After showing a VIC Card, shoppers can purchase two good-any-day tickets for the price of one.  New this year, at the Golfsmith location on Wendover Avenue, discounted tickets are available for $10 off the regular price.

Tournament Parking:  Wyndham Championship parking will mirror last year’s setup.  The South Public Parking Lot at Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) located on High Point Road south of the intersection with Guilford College Road is designed for Wyndham fans living in Jamestown, High Point, Lexington, Thomasville and other points south.  Like the Greensboro Coliseum public parking, the South lot is open Thursday through Sunday with a cost of $7 per car.  The tournament also offers Premier Public Parking at American Furniture Warehouse Thursday through Sunday where the cost is $10 per car on a first come, first served basis.  Monday through Wednesday, all parking is at the premier location at the intersection of High Point Road and Merritt Drive.

Contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the seventh-oldest event on the PGA TOUR.  Tickets are available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office.  The tournament thanks title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide, presenting sponsor BB&T and Premier Partners, Cadillac, Harris Teeter, McConnell Golf, Sunbrella®, Technology Concepts & Design, Inc. and VF Corporation for their continued support.  Additional tournament information, including ticket packages and sponsorship information, is available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office at (336) 379-1570.  For more information about Wyndham Worldwide, please visit www.wyndhamworldwide.com.  Stay connected with the Wyndham Championship through its social media channels, including the Wyndham Championship Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, Flickr and YouTube.
