Dare’s Doodles
June 30, 2008                                                                                                                                                     Vol 5

The 2008 Wyndham Championship is only 42 days away!  With that being said, Volunteer Day is only 20 days away!  I have a lot of information to share about the schedule for that date which is July 20th at Sedgefield Country Club.

Again this year each area will have its own training time except for Walking Scorers and Standard Bearers.  These two areas will share the time.  Pro Am Caddies will begin at 1:00 pm with our new Pro Am Caddie Chairmen- Tommy Caudle, Andrew Irby and Megan Irby.  Then at 1:30 pm, Larry Hemphill, Andy Turner and Scott Foster, ShotLink Chairmen, will talk to the ShotLink Volunteers.  At 2:30, we will combine Walking Scorers and Standard Bearers’ training.  Last but not least will be the Gallery Control training with Walter Kromm and Andy Wyrick at 3:30.  Training is highly encouraged for all Volunteers.
Parking will be around the Clubhouse.  Volunteers might want to arrive early to get a prime parking place.  The Sedgefield Community entrance is off High Point Road across from the old JP Building.  If you need directions, please call the office at -379-1570 or go to www.sedgefieldcc.org.

The training will be held downstairs and the food will be served upstairs.  Clothing location will be announced at training.  If a Volunteer gets lost, there will be many Tournament Committee members, Tournament staff  and Chairmen around to help everyone.  The added bonus is that Volunteers will become familiar with the faces behind the scenes of the Wyndham Championship.

An “All American Lunch” will be served for all who attend with Sedgefield doing the cooking.  Please plan to come early or stay a while after your training to have a wonderful meal on us.  Gallery Control Volunteers will need to be sure to eat before training.  The meal will be served from 12:00 to 3:30.
Volunteer clothing can be received after your area’s training.  We are asking if any Volunteer wishes to purchase extra shirts to wait until Tournament.  Greg and Chip, our clothing chairs, need to fill the regular packages first.  Thank you for your understanding on this matter.

We are delighted to welcome some new chairmen to the Volunteer area.  Tommy Caudle, Andrew and Megan Irby are our new Pro Am Caddie Chairs.  Also, Bob Berry has joined Lee and Barbara with Standard Bearers.  Welcome to our Volunteer Family.
Moses Cone Hospital has graciously donated laminated cards to go on Volunteer lanyards with information for preventing heat exhaustion.  The cards are a wonderful and a much needed gift for our Volunteers.  Thank you to Tom Dorle, Donna Provost and the Moses Cone Family.

Welcome to the hole sponsors group goes to Kiwanis Club of Greensboro and Scott and Stringfellow, Inc.  The Kiwanis Club is one of our Gallery Control Groups and Scott and Stringfellow, Inc will be working with ShotLink.  Glad to have ya’ll on course.

No time like the present to register to volunteer with the Wyndham.  We never have enough and are always delighted to have new faces with us.  Please go online to
www.wyndhamchampionship.com to register.  Remember you do not have to know how to play golf to volunteer.  Any group interested in volunteering should contact me, Dare London at 336-379-1570 or volunteers@wyndhamchampionship.com.

I have had Volunteers ask “why should I volunteer for the Tournament?”  My answer is always that even though a Volunteer gets to see some great golf, meet awesome people and have a fantastic time, our MAIN goal is to help raise one million dollars for area charities.  Not many of us could write that big of a check for charity, but by being part of the Tournament, Volunteers help to generate money for worthy organizations.  This is the best reason of all to volunteer.

Have a wonderful Fourth and see each of you at Volunteer Day on July 20th!  Thank you for being the best Volunteers that any PGA TOUR event has!
