WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP LAUNCHES 50/50 RAFFLE IN SUPPORT OF WNC HURRICANE RELIEF

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wyndham Championship’s focus on charitable impact has always been a key aspiration, but this year, its goal is expanding to address a glaring need. The 86th annual Wyndham Championship is set for July 30-Aug. 3, 2025 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

In late September of 2024, Hurricane Helene roared onshore in Florida and cut a path of destruction through the southeast with a catastrophic bullseye on Western North Carolina. Asheville sustained unfathomable damage in multiple areas of the city. One of the casualties was Asheville Municipal Golf Course or “muni” as many locals call it. Designed by Donald Ross in 1927, the front side is largely flat and was destroyed by the raging flood waters. The backside goes up in elevation, and while it sustained damage, it remains largely in tact and is in use. The First Tee – Central Carolina conducts programming at this golf course.

In addition to its ongoing focus on providing backpacks of healthy food for families in need as well as supporting The First Tee–Central Carolina, the Wyndham Championship is adding Western North Carolina Hurricane relief to its charitable efforts starting this year. The tournament will conduct a 50/50 raffle during tournament week with proceeds benefiting Asheville Municipal Golf Course and The First Tee.

When the full course reopens, The First Tee-Central Carolina will enhance its programming doing business as The First Tee-Western North Carolina. The golf course will be rebuilt in the next few years, but because it is only able to generate half of its normal revenue, fundraising is needed to generate money to replace the missing revenue.

The raffle, which is live now, will be available on-site at the Wyndham Championship next week and online for those who are not at the tournament. The jackpot winner will be drawn at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, and the jackpot could reach $50,000 if ticket purchases exceed $100,000. In addition, for each day of Wyndham Championship official tournament play, a daily drawing will award tournament-related prizes such as hospitality tickets or signed tournament memorabilia.

“Asheville Municipal Golf Course is very important to Western North Carolina historically,” Executive Director Mark Brazil said. “In my opinion, it might be the most important golf course in the region as it relates to public access, the number of rounds played each year, junior golf programming through The First Tee and amateur events. It serves the citizens of Asheville as well as much of Western North Carolina. As neighbors of Western North Carolina, we were devastated to learn of the damage at Asheville Municipal but are honored to hopefully play a small role in its recovery.”

Raffle tickets may only be purchased electronically by visiting https://bit.ly/3TT4mdH or scanning the QR codes located around the Wyndham Championship next week. The purchase options are:

  • Par: $10 for five chances
  • Birdie: $20 for 20 chances
