AARON RAI WILL DEFEND TITLE; MORE PAST CHAMPIONS WILL PLAY

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Defending champion Aaron Rai and past champions Si Woo Kim, J.T. Poston, two-time champion Brandt Snedeker, Webb Simpson, Camilo Villegas and Jim Herman will play the Wyndham Championship later this month, the tournament announced today. The 86th annual Wyndham Championship is set for July 30-Aug. 3, 2025 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

Rai captured his first PGA TOUR win at Sedgefield last summer, but with five international victories already to his credit, he was far from a rookie. Rai battled through 72 holes in just three days after the opening round was delayed until Friday due to the remnants of Hurricane Debby. He closed with a bogey-free 64 finishing almost in the dark.

Rai became the tournament’s 21st first-time winner, its 21st international winner and its first winner from England. He hasn’t won this season, but several strong finishes include tied for fourth at the Mexico Open at Vidante World. He is currently 54th in FedExCup points and 34th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He will make his fourth Wyndham Championship start.

Kim is currently 40th in FedExCup points and 62nd in the Official World Golf Rankings. He will make his eighth-consecutive Wyndham Championship start and his 10th overall. In addition to his first PGA TOUR win at Sedgefield in 2016, Kim has three top-five finishes here including tied for second after the six-man playoff in 2021. A native of South Korea, Kim finished tied for eighth at the RBC Heritage and the PGA Championship for his best finishes of the season. Kim teamed with 2022 champion Tom Kim at the 2022 Presidents Cup matches in his second appearance in that event. He also represented South Korea in the 2020 Olympic Games.

Poston, currently 48th in FedExCup points and 44th in the world, will make his ninth Wyndham Championship start this year. Now a three-time PGA TOUR winner, Poston won the 2019 tournament on the strength of a final round 62 erasing a three-stroke deficit and vaulting to his first TOUR victory. The Western Carolina University alumnus enjoyed his best result of the season finishing the PGA Championship in a tie for fifth place.

Simpson, who leads the Wyndham Championship career money-winners list with $4,021,885 in 16 starts, is working his way back into form following neck injuries. He captured his first PGA TOUR victory here in 2011 and went on to win the 2012 U.S. Open 10 months later. He has three top-three finishes and seven top-10 finishes here in addition to his win. The Wake Forest University alumnus represented the United States in the Ryder Cup in 2012, ‘14 and ‘18, the Presidents Cup in 2011, ‘13 and ‘19 and the Walker Cup in 2007. He will make his 17th Wyndham Championship start this summer.

Snedeker won the Wyndham Championship in 2007, his first-career win, and again in 2018 shooting a course-record 59 in the first round becoming then the 10th golfer in PGA TOUR history to shoot a sub-60 round in official tournament play; he is just the 10th multiple winner in tournament history. The nine-time PGA TOUR winner is working his way back into form following significant injuries; his best finish this season was tied for seventh at The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. The 2012 FedExCup champion is second on the Wyndham Championship career money list with $2,944,841 in 16 appearances here. He represented the United States in the Ryder Cup in 2012 and ’16 as well as the 2013 Presidents Cup.

Villegas captured his Sam Snead Cup in 2014, and he returns this year for his 12th Wyndham Championship start. The five-time PGA TOUR winner was in contention entering the John Deere Classic final round last weekend but dropped into a tie for 33rd. He represented Colombia in the 2006 and ‘11 World Cups and was a member of the international team at the 2009 Presidents Cup.

Herman is playing the Wyndham Championship for the 10th time. The three-time PGA TOUR winner earned his 2020 Wyndham Championship victory with a historic 61-63, 15-under par weekend performance and defeated Billy Horschel by a stroke. Herman’s weekend total of 124 matched the lowest final 36-hole score by a winner in PGA TOUR history (Stuart Appleby – 2010 A Military Tribute at the Greenbriar).
