GREENSBORO, N.C. – Past Masters champions Hideki Matsuyama and Zach Johnson along with 2019 U.S. Open Champion Gary Woodland join previously announced Major champions Adam Scott, Matt Fitzpatrick, Webb Simpson and Lucas Glover in the Wyndham Championship field, the tournament announced today. The 86th annual Wyndham Championship is set for July 30-Aug. 3, 2025 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
These players join Rickie Fowler, FedExCup No. 7 Ben Griffin, former world No. 1 and Masters champion Adam Scott, Max Homa, 2022 U.S. Open Champion Matt Fitzpatrick, Scottish Open Champion and FedExCup No. 23 Chris Gotterup, FedExCup No. 15 Robert MacIntyre, FedExCup No. 26, past U.S. Open champion and Wyndham champion Lucas Glover, FedExCup No. 29 Sungjae Im, FedExCup No. 30 Ryan Fox, FedExCup No. 33 Thomas Detry, world No. 1 amateur Jackson Koivun, defending champion Aaron Rai, past champions Kevin Kisner, Si Woo Kim, J.T. Poston, Tom Kim, two-time champion Brandt Snedeker, past U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson and Camilo Villegas in the field.
Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion and the first Japanese player to win a men’s major championship, is 21st in the current FedExCup point standings and 13th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He will make his ninth Wyndham Championship appearance next week; he finished tied for third in 2016 and tied for 11th in 2018 for his best finishes at Sedgefield. Matsuyama is an 11-time PGA TOUR winner with eight international victories to his credit. He won the Sentry early this season; more recently, he finished tied for 13th at the Scottish Open and tied for 16th at last week’s Open Championship. He is a native and resident of Japan. He represented Japan in the 2020 and ’24 Olympics and represented the international time six times in the Presidents Cup.
Johnson, a 12-time PGA TOUR winner who was the Ryder Cup captain in 2023 after playing in the event five times and playing in the Presidents Cup four times, won the Masters in 2007 and the Open Championship in 2015. He has nine previous Wyndham Championship appearances including each of the last six. His best finishes here are tied for fifth in 2013 and tied for seventh in 2020. He hasn’t won this season and is 116th in FedExCup points. His best finishes this season are tied for eighth at the Masters Tournament and tied for 18th at the Valero Texas Open.
Woodland is a four-time PGA TOUR winner who won the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. He hasn’t won this season, but he finished tied for second at the Texas Children’s Houston Open and tied for 11th at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He represented the United States in the 2019 Presidents Cup and the 2011 World Cup. The University of Kansas alumnus is 78th in FedExCup points and 108th in the Official World Golf Rankings. A native of Topeka, Kan., Woodland is making his fifth Wyndham Championship start.
