World No. 8 Rickie Fowler Joins Wyndham Field

 GREENSBORO, N.C. – – Rickie Fowler, currently ranked eighth in the Official World Golf Rankings, 12th in Ryder Cup points and 29th in the FedExCup point standings, will play next week’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today.  The 77th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 15-21, 2016 at Sedgefield Country Club.

Fowler joins 2016 PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker, former Wyndham winner Brandt Snedeker, World No. 14 Patrick Reed, World No. 21 J.B. Holmes, World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els, Wake Forest alumnus Bill Haas, U.S. Open champions Webb Simpson, Retief Goosen, Graeme McDowell, Jim Furyk, Angel Cabrera and Lucas Glover, PGA Championship winners Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley and David Toms, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Paul Casey, 2014 FedExCup champion Billy Horschel, Kevin Kisner, Kevin Na, William McGirt,  former world No. 1 Luke Donald, Open Championship winners Justin Leonard and Stewart Cink, former Wyndham winners Ryan Moore, Camilo Villegas and Arjun Atwal, Scott Piercy, Harris English, Irish star Shane Lowry as well as Spanish stars Rafael Cabrera Bello and Jon Rahm in the field.

Fowler, who was ranked fourth in the world earlier this season, is a three-time PGA TOUR winner with three international wins also to his credit.  This season, he finished second at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, tied for fourth at the Wells Fargo Championship, fifth at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, tied for sixth at the Honda Classic, tied for eighth at the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship and tied for 10th at the Shell Houston Open and the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.  He has represented the United States in the Ryder Cup matches twice, the Presidents Cup once and twice as an amateur in the Walker Cup. Fowler has never played the Wyndham Championship, but in AJGA competition, he finished fifth in the 2006 Haas Family Invitational.
