2006 Wyndham Championship Recap

2004 champion Brent Geiberger, John Rollins and Nick Watney shared the first-round lead after firing 8-under-par 64s. John Senden, Robert Gamez, Tad Ridings, Mike Sposa, James Driscoll and Charley Hoffman were all two strokes back. On Friday, Watney moved to 9-under-par 135 and led Ryan Palmer and Senden by one stroke. Six golfers were three strokes off the pace. 1992 winner Davis Love III and Chris Couch endured brutal weather conditions on Saturday and shared the third-round lead at 10-under-par 206. Saturday was cold, wet and windy with temperatures in the high 40s and winds gusting to nearly 30 mph. Chris Smith, Steve Flesch and Senden were a stroke off the lead while seven others were two strokes back. The top-22 golfers were separated by just three strokes entering the final round. It was still windy, but Sunday’s final-round weather was much improved, and Davis Love III took advantage firing a final-round 66 to take the title by two strokes over Jason Bohn. Love became just the eighth player in tournament history to record multiple Wyndham Championship wins.
