Rory McIlroy Wins HSBC Champions, moves to No. 1 in Wyndham Rewards Top 10

Rory McIlroy continued his amazing 2019 winning the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions in China by defeating Xander Schauffele on the first playoff hole.  It was his third World Golf Championship win and his fourth win in his last 15 starts.  During this calendar year, McIlroy won the PLAYERS Championship, the RBC Canadian Open, the TOUR Championship and FedExCup title and now the HSBC Champions.  He was named the 2018-’19 PGA TOUR Player of the Year.

With his win in China, McIlroy moved to the top of the FedExCup point standings and the Wyndham Rewards Top 10, but his stay atop the standings was a short one.  Later on Sunday, Brendan Todd won the Bermuda Championship, but Houston Open champion Lanto Griffin finished tied for 18th and moved back into the lead.  McIlroy is in second place 24 points behind Griffin.

New last season, the $10 million Wyndham Rewards Top 10 not only adds drama to the Wyndham Championship as the final event before the FedExCup Playoffs but also puts an even greater premium on excelling over the course of the FedExCup Regular Season.

The top-10 Regular Season finishers in FedExCup points following the Wyndham Championship – also sponsored by Wyndham Rewards – will reap the benefits of the Wyndham Rewards Top 10. The regular season points leader will earn $2 million, followed by $1.5 million for the runner-up with the 10th-place finisher earning $500,000.
