AIG Support Our Troops Program Returns United States Army and Air Force Personnel from Fort Bragg to attend and be honored at the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – – After a very successful debut in 2004, America International Group, Inc. (AIG), the world’s leading international insurance and financial services organization, will again bring members of the United States Armed Forces to the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro PGA TOUR event.
The military personnel who will attend the Chrysler Classic primarily will be enlisted men and women who recently have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan and will specifically be selected for the honor from the ranks at Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base. Approximately 250 Army and Air Force troops will attend the Chrysler Classic on each day of the tournament, Thursday, Sept. 29 – Sunday, Oct. 2.
AIG also will host a hospitality area for the troops in a hospitality tent adjacent to the 18th fairway at Forest Oaks Country Club. Thursday’s group will be Special Forces; Friday’s will be comprised of members of the 82nd Airborne division; Saturday’s group comes from Pope Air Force Base; and a combination of troops will attend the final round of the Chrysler Classic. Greensboro-based AIG United Guaranty, a mortgage insurance provider and AIG member company, sponsored the inaugural Support Our Troops program in 2004. Parent company AIG agreed to sponsor this year’s event.
“We are honored to host the men and women of our armed forces from Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base again this year,” Chrysler Classic of Greensboro Tournament Director Mark Brazil said. “AIG really stepped up big this year, and we appreciate their support of our efforts to honor our troops. No matter what you think about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, it’s safe to say we’re all on the same page when it comes to supporting troops overseas.”
In addition to the Support Our Troops program, AIG is also sponsoring the new electronic scoreboard and video monitor at the 18th Green at Forest Oaks Country Club. The AIG scoreboard and big-screen video monitor replaces the old manual scoreboard.
The 2005 Chrysler Classic of Greensboro is set for Sept. 26-Oct. 2, 2005 at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. This year’s tournament marks the 10th anniversary of Chrysler’s title sponsorship and thanks VF Corporation and Harris Teeter for increasing their involvement to the Premier Partner level. Tickets are available at the tournament office at (336) 379-1570. Additional tournament information is available at www.chryslerclassic.org.
