CAMERON YOUNG NAMED UNITED STATES RYDER CUP CAPTAIN’S PICK

GREENSBORO, N.C. – – After capturing his first PGA TOUR victory at the Wyndham Championship earlier this month, Cameron Young entered the Ryder Cup Captain’s Pick conversation. United States Captain Keegan Bradley turned that conversation into reality when he announced Young as a Captain’s Pick for this year’s team. The 87th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 5-9, 2026 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

After winning the Wyndham Championship, Young finished no lower than 11th in the FedExCup Playoffs. He finished fifth at the FedEx Championship, 11th at the BMW Championship and tied for fourth at the TOUR Championship – which became his final FedExCup position and likely solidified his selection. The Ryder Cup is set for Sept. 27-29 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y., a short drive from Young’s home town, Scarborough.

“Cam has been one of the most consistent players on the TOUR of the last four or five years,” Bradley said. “He broke through with that amazing win at the Windham Championship that he’s been fighting so hard for. Watching him on Sunday, with that big lead, play like that was incredible. Cameron’s a New Yorker; he won the New York State Open and Bethpage Black as an amateur and set the course record on Sunday with a 64. Cameron pounds the golf ball and he’s putting it as good as he’s ever putted. He’s had nine, top-12 finishes (this season) which shows how consistent he’s been. We’re very proud to have a New Yorker on our team to represent his country at Bethpage Black.

“Obviously playing for your country is very special,” Young said. “For me, the U.S is home, but New York is really home so going back up there to somewhere I love, I can’t wait to get up there. To get the opportunity to represent my country and play in a Ryder Cup is something I’ve dreamed of for so long. It’s hard to even put into words what it means.”

Young joins automatic qualifiers Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau along with Captain’s Picks Justin Thomas, Ben Griffin, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns.

“Making any one of these teams is such a mark of achievement that it’s a goal when you set out the year, but to me, this Ryder Cup in particular in New York at Bethpage is so special,” Young said. “I’ve been picturing the moment that I could possibly get a call to play on a team for a very, very long time. In regards to it being more important than the win (at the Wyndham Championship), it’s such an overarching goal to make these teams, and that win is a step along the way. Winning a golf tournament on the PGA TOUR has always been a goal, but at the end of the day, making this team is incredibly important. That was one of the later steps along the way to give myself a chance to have the opportunity to be a Captain’s Pick.”

“It’s (Bethpage Black) a very special place to me. I’ve played it a fair bit; I’ve always loved it. It’s straightforward, it’s right in front of you, it’s long, and it’s difficult; I just love that about it. There’s nothing funky about it. ‘Here’s a fairway; if you hit it, you have a chance. If not, good luck.’ It’s kind of that major championship style – difficult – that I think suits my game. I’m always excited to go back there; it’s my favorite place is world.”

“I kind of figured he would be one of the picks based on how he played at the Wyndham Championship and the three playoff events,” Wyndham Championship Executive Director Mark Brazil said. “He’s very familiar with Bethpage Black, is from that area and has tournament experience on the course. It’s a perfect fit for his game. He hits it a long way, and he’s very comfortable there. I think all of those factors played into the decision, and we are very excited about it and so happy for Cam.”

Of the 12 players on the United States Ryder Cup team, seven played the AJGA Wyndham Invitational presented by Odyssey: Scottie Schefffler, Russell Henley, Harris English, Justin Thomas, Ben Griffin, Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns. In addition, six of them played the Wyndham Cup, the AJGA’s annual Ryder Cup-style competition: Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin and Sam Burns.
