GREENSBORO, N.C. (August 12, 2013) –Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), one of the world’s largest hospitality companies, is giving families an opportunity to enjoy one last vacation of the summer and “Escape to the Wyndham” during this week’s Wyndham Championship, August 15 – 18. The annual golf tournament is the final stop of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup regular season.
Held annually at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship attracts more than 80,000 spectators each year and offers a week full of golf, as well as family-fun activities, prizes and charitable giving. For many fans, the tournament may be their last escape of the summer, and for the players, it’s the last PGA TOUR stop before the playoffs and seen as a must-play for those looking to win points before the FedEx Cup.
“As a family-oriented company, Wyndham Worldwide is committed to creating great experiences for our guests and customers of all ages, and we have created an outstanding vacation atmosphere at the Wyndham Championship,” said Stephen P. Holmes, chairman and chief executive officer, Wyndham Worldwide. “We are incredibly proud to be a part of the rich history and tradition of the championship in North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad.”
Vacation Itinerary
While relaxing in the vacation-like atmosphere that permeates the entire tournament, attendees will have several opportunities to win a multitude of prizes and enter to win daily vacation giveaways at the “Key to Wyn,” a specially designed expo tent reminiscent of a resort lobby.
From there, spectators can check out the Margaritaville at The Wyndham boardwalk, which highlights the partnership between Wyndham Vacation Ownership, the vacation ownership division of Wyndham Worldwide, and Margaritaville Hospitality Group. Margaritaville at The Wyndham is a complimentary hospitality hub that evokes a retreat by the shore and features live entertainment, concessions and many other vacation-themed activities. Fans can even immerse themselves in a 3D vacation-themed sidewalk art display for photo opportunities.
For the youngest golf enthusiasts, the Wyndham Adventure Zone promises to provide a fun escape with bouncy houses and a rock-climbing wall. And for the adults, there is a caricature artist and a golf-swing analysis station.
Good Works
Since 2006, philanthropy has remained a cornerstone of the Wyndham Championship. For the third year in a row, attendees can cast their vote for their favorite local not-for-profit organization in the Charity of Choice awareness campaign. Voting takes place on-site Thursday, August 15, through Sunday, August 18, with the winning charity announced after the Tournament trophy presentation. The charity that receives the most votes will receive a $100,000 donation from Wishes by Wyndham, the official charity of the Wyndham Championship. New charitable activities this year at the Wyndham Championship include a 32-foot-long Wishes by Wyndham-branded trailer that will host a video game tournament. Using the WiiTM Sports expert level three-hole golf course, golf-enthusiasts and the PGA TOUR pros will have an opportunity to “birdie for charity.” Prizes will be awarded to the top scorers and Wishes by Wyndham will make a donation for each birdie made.
Even kids attending the Tournament will have an opportunity to give back. The Wishes by Wyndham Christel House Tapestry Painting, a tapestry featuring a black and white golf-themed image, will be available for kids, and adults, to color and bring to life using fabric-safe paints.
“Believing that you can do well by doing good, Wyndham Worldwide is committed to enhancing the quality of life of children around the world and making lasting contributions in the communities where our associates live, work and play,” said Mary Falvey, executive vice president and chief human resources officer, Wyndham Worldwide. “We are extremely proud of the longstanding tradition of charitable giving at the Wyndham Championship. Philanthropy has always been a central focus of the tournament and has allowed us to support many outstanding local charitable organizations.”
Social Connection
On or off the course, it’s never been easier to stay connected with the Wyndham Championship through its social media channels, including the Wyndham Championship Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, Flickr and YouTube. Fans will receive a behind-the-scenes look, instant updates, fun facts and even have an opportunity to win great prizes. On-course, spectators should keep their eyes open for the Wyndham Championship Tweet Patrol (#WyndhamChamp), who will be sharing fan photos on the Wyndham Championship Twitter and Facebook pages. On Saturday, August 17, fans are encouraged to tweet pictures of themselves outfitted in their best tropical attire for a chance to win a Wyndham vacation.
