GREENSBORO, N.C. – Japanese superstar Hideki Matsuyama, Daniel Berger and Tony Finau are late additions and will play next week’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 87th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 5-9, 2026, at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
The deadline to join next week’s Wyndham Championship field was 5 p.m. today, but for those playing this week’s Rocket Classic in Detroit, the deadline to join the field is 30 minutes after today’s final putt drops. In addition, four Monday qualifiers will be added to the field early next week.
These players join two-time Major winner Justin Thomas, World No. 3 and defending champion Cam Young, three-time Major winner Jordan Spieth, five-time Major winner Brooks Koepka, 2025 Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley, reigning PGA Championship winner and 2024 Wyndham winner Aaron Rai, FedExCup No. 17 Kristoffer Reitan, FedExCup No. 18 Ryan Gerard, FedExCup No. 19 Alex Fitzpatrick, FedExCup No. 24 Alex Smalley, 2023 Open Championship winner Brian Harman, superstar rookie Jackson Koivun, past PGA Champion Jason Day as well as past champions FedExCup No. 28 J.T. Poston, FedExCup No. 34 Tom Kim, Brandt Snedeker, Lucas Glover and Webb Simpson, three-time Ryder Cupper Patrick Cantlay, FedExCup No. 34 Harris English, FedExCup No. 36 Ben Griffin, FedExCup No. 37 Sepp Straka.
The field includes:
- Every player, except five, ranked 33rd through 112 in FedExCup points
- 13 of the top 40 in FedExCup points
- 22 of the top 50 in FedExCup points
- 29 of the top 60 in FedExCup points
- 39 of the top 70 in FedExCup points
- 49 of the top 80 in FedExCup points
- 59 of the top 90 in FedExCup points
- 69 of the top 100 in FedExCup points
- 17 of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings
“This field is another extremely strong Wyndham Championship field,” Executive Director Mark Brazil said. “It’s about making the top 70 and advancing into the FedExCup playoffs. It’s about making the top 50 after the BMW Championship in two weeks to be in the 2027 signature events and earn money from the massive bonus pool paid prior to the TOUR Championship. These numbers show the significance of the Wyndham Championship date very clearly,”
Matsuyama is 26th in FedExCup points and 25th in the Official World Golf Rankings. A native and resident of Japan, he became the first Japanese player to win a men’s Major championship when he won the Masters Tournament in 2021. He has 11 PGA TOUR wins and eight international wins to his credit; he has yet to win this season but was close multiple times. He lost the playoff and finished second at the WM Phoenix Open, tied for eighth at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and tied for third at last week’s 3M Open. He played on the International team at each of the last six Presidents Cup Matches. He finished tied for third in the 2016 Wyndham Championship, his best finish in nine previous Sedgefield starts.
Berger is 54th in FedExCup points and 54th in the Official World Golf Rankings. The four-time PGA TOUR winner hasn’t won yet this year, but he was the runner up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard where he lost in a playoff and tied for sixth at the Sony Open in Hawaii. The Florida State alumnus will make his fifth Wyndham Championship appearance.
Finau is a six-time PGA TOUR winner who will make his second Wyndham Championship start next week. He hasn’t won yet this season but finished tied for sixth at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and tied for 11th at the Farmers Insurance Open. He represented the United States in each of the last three Presidents Cup matches. A native and resident of Utah, he turned professional out of high school at the age of 17. Finau is 87th in FedExCup points and 130th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
