Sergio Garcia, Jason Day, Rory Sabbatini Join Star-Studded Wyndham Championship Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sergio Garcia, Jason Day and Rory Sabbatini are late additions to the Wyndham Championship field, it was announced today.  The 73rd annual Wyndham Championship begins Monday.

These players join a field that already includes defending champion and 2012 U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson, 2012 Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III, 2011 FedExCup champion Bill Haas, Jason Dufner who is currently third in the FedExCup point standings and eighth in the Official World Golf Rankings, former Wyndham winners Brandt Snedeker, Carl Pettersson and Ryan Moore, Japanese superstar Ryo Ishikawa, Nick Watney, Camilo Villegas, Fredrik Jacobson, Nicolas Colsaerts as well as former Major winners Charl Schwartzel, Trevor Immelman, David Toms, John Daly, Lucas Glover, Justin Leonard and Angel Cabrera.

Garcia is making his third Wyndham appearance and his first since 2009 when he finished fourth in his best Wyndham finish.  In the final round that year, Garcia needed to hole a shot from the greenside bunker at the par four 18th hole to join a playoff with Jason Bohn, Kevin Stadler and Ryan Moore.  Garcia’s bunker shot barely missed, and Moore went on to win the tournament on the third playoff hole. Garcia is currently 26th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 102nd in FedExCup points.  A native and resident of Spain, Garcia has seven PGA TOUR wins and 14 international victories.  He won two European Tour events in Spain late last year and has represented the international team in five Ryder Cup Matches and two World Cup Matches.

Day is 23rd in the Official World Golf Rankings and 107th in FedExCup points.  The Australian golfer finished eighth in the 2010 FedExCup point standings and 12th last year.  He recorded a career-best10 top-10 finishes last season and has three top 10s this year.  Day also played the Wyndham in 2008 but missed the cut.

Sabbatini is 62nd in the FedExCup point standings and 71st in the Official World Golf Rankings.  He tied for second at the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance earlier this season for his best finish this year.  Sabbatini is making his first appearance in the Wyndham Championship since 1999; he is a six-time PGA TOUR winner.
