GREENSBORO, N.C. – Humana, Inc. will sponsor the Wyndham Championship “Champions Breakfast” on Thursday of tournament week to begin the event’s “Regionalism Day”, it was announced today. The 74th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 12-18, 2013.
“Regionalism Day” is designed to bring business and civic leaders from throughout the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina together for the day at the Wyndham. The day begins with the Champions Breakfast presented by Humana at the Grandover Resort. Wyndham Worldwide Chairman and CEO Stephen P. Holmes will lead a question and answer session with former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles who is now president emeritus of the University of North Carolina.
From the breakfast, attendees will move to nearby Sedgefield Country Club to watch the first round of the Wyndham Championship before attending the BB&T Triad Community Lunch and later, the Triad Community reception at Sedgefield. The day concludes with Celebration of the Triad Party at Grandover Resort. This sponsorship is not Humana’s first in golf; the third PGA TOUR event of the season in La Quinta, Calif., is the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation.
During the Wyndham Championship, Humana will host an expo to promote health and wellness among Wyndham Championship fans. Humana will distribute pedometers to Wyndham fans as part of its Walkit Challenge, a national competition to see which 2013 PGA TOUR event generates the most steps taken by fans, The TOUR event with the most recorded steps at the end of the season will win a new multigenerational playground from Humana and KaBOOM! – a national nonprofit organization that has built more than 2,200 playgrounds. The current number to beat is 13.8 million steps, set at THE PLAYERS Championship in May.
