Saturday Tee Times Moved Up due to Weather Forecast

GREENSBORO, N.C.  – With inclement weather predicted for Saturday, PGA TOUR and Wyndham Championship officials have decided to move up Saturday’s tee times in an effort to complete tomorrow’s third round, the tournament announced today.  The 74th annual Wyndham Championship resumes tomorrow.

Golfers will play in threesomes from both the first and 10th tees.  The goal is to complete play at 2:30 p.m. Play was scheduled to end at 6:30 p.m. with the CBS Sports broadcast, but any significant delay would make completing the third round on Saturday challenging.

“We’ve had so much rain here in the Piedmont of North Carolina that the water table is so high it’s not going to take much rain at all to cause us some problems on the golf course,” PGA TOUR vice president, rules and competition Mark Russell said.  “With the 6:30 p.m. finish tomorrow night on CBS Sports, if we got knocked out, we’d have absolutely no time to come back and try to finish.  So, the forecast is better for Sunday and hopefully by playing early tomorrow, if we do have some down time, we’ll at least leave ourselves time to get the players back out and finish the third round.”

Revised Saturday Schedule:

5:30 a.m.         Caddy and volunteer lots open; shuttles begin

6:30 a.m.         All public parking areas open, parking shuttles begin

6:30 a.m.         Tournament gates open

7 a.m.              First tee time

2:30 p.m.         Approximate completion of play

Note:  Parking shuttles will run until two hours after play is complete or 9 p.m., whichever comes first.

The new schedule will alter plans for the second annual Wyndham Championship Tropical Wear contest.  Fans attending the Wyndham Championship tomorrow will have another chance to win a vacation from Wyndham Worldwide by winning the contest.  The Tropical Wear contest will now begin at 11 a.m. under the Margaritaville at the Wyndham tent with an autograph session featuring Rock 92 personalities Chris Kelly and “Biggie.” At Noon, the contest judging will begin with Wyndham officials and personalities from Rock 92 and 107.5 WKZL serving as judges. The contest will now be complete by 1 p.m.

Piedmont Triad golf fans should come to Sedgefield in their most creative tropical outfits.  Tropical wear such as beach hats, sandals, Hawaiian shirts, shorts, skirts, grass skirts, sarongs, cover-ups, scuba gear, etc. are examples of acceptable contest attire.  Thong bikinis and other clothing that is not widely considered family friendly will not be eligible for the contest.

Contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the seventh-oldest event on the PGA TOUR.  Two-for-one good-any-day tickets are available for purchase at Piedmont Triad Harris Teeter locations with a VIC Card; other tickets are available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office.  The tournament thanks title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide, presenting sponsor BB&T and Premier Partners, Cadillac, Harris Teeter, McConnell Golf, Sunbrella®, Technology Concepts & Design, Inc. and VF Corporation for their continued support.  Additional tournament information, including ticket packages and sponsorship information, is available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office at (336) 379-1570.  For more information about Wyndham Worldwide, please visit www.wyndhamworldwide.com.  Stay connected with the Wyndham Championship through its social media channels, including the Wyndham Championship Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, Flickr and YouTube.
