JAY HORTON NAMED 2025 GENERAL CHAIRMAN

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Longtime Wyndham Championship volunteer, Jay Horton, will lead the tournament’s volunteer team as the 2025 General Chairman, the tournament announced today. The 86th annual Wyndham Championship is set for July 30-Aug. 3, 2025 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

As the General Chairman, Horton leads the team of some 1,200 tournament volunteers and chairs the tournament committee, a group of year-round volunteer leaders, each overseeing an area of tournament operations. He moved to Greensboro in 1991 as a salesman for Brach’s candy. Today, he works for Canon USA supporting companies with a major presence or corporate headquarters in North Carolina. Two years after moving to Greensboro, he joined the Wyndham Championship, then the Greater Greensboro Open, as a volunteer.

He volunteered in concessions, operations and just about every other area of tournament operations. For the last several years, Horton worked with his fellow volunteers running the tournament’s Monday and Wednesday pro-ams. Already having experience in most areas of the tournament, pro-ams allowed him to interact with corporate partners, PGA TOUR officials and players as well as Sedgefield Country Club personnel.

“It’s an incredible honor,” Horton said. “The history of this tournament is rich and meaningful. What keeps me coming back year in and year out is the pride of the community, the value the tournament brings to central North Carolina and the relationships that now span three decades. When you look back at the tournament, it’s remarkable to reflect on nearly nine decades of history. That kind of legacy is inspiring.

“None of this would be possible without our more than 1,200 volunteers. We’re so grateful and completely understand we couldn’t do it without them! Just as the community needs the Wyndham Championship, the tournament relies on the dedication and support of its volunteers.

“I serve alongside folks I’ve volunteered with for over 30 years. There’s something incredibly special about that kind of connection, and it speaks volumes about what Central North Carolina has with the Wyndham Championship.  It’s more than just a golf tournament—it’s a tradition, a community and a family.”

Horton is a native of Williamston, N.C., and a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill alumnus. He and his wife, Terisa, live just outside Greensboro, and their niece, Anna, is a Wyndham Championship senior intern.
