CARL PETTERSSON, BILL HAAS AND KYUNG-TAE KIM JOIN WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD

GREENSBORO, N.C. – 2008 Wyndham Championship winner Carl Pettersson is among three players who have joined the Wyndham Championship field, it was announced today.  The 72nd annual Wyndham Championship presented by BB&T is set for Aug, 15-21 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

Bill Haas is 12th in the current FedExCup Point standings and 38th in the official world golf rankings.  The Wake Forest alumnus returns to the Wyndham this year for the seventh time.  His best finish in the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event came in 2009 when he finished tied for 10th.  The Haas family has a long history with the Wyndham Championship as Bill’s father Jay made 22 appearances here, and his uncle Jerry made three.

Pettersson reset the Wyndham Championship record book when he won the Wyndham in 2008; he set scoring records for 18 holes, 36 holes, 54 holes and 72 holes.  While Arjun Atwal and Kevin Na have since equaled Pettersson’s second-round 61, his 72-hole mark of 259, 21-under par, still stands.  With the 2011 tournament, the NC State alumnus will have made nine consecutive appearances at the Wyndham Championship.

Kyung-Tae Kim, currently No. 21 in the Official World Golf Rankings, will play the Wyndham Championship on a PGA TOUR foreign exemption.  He was the leading money winner on the Japan Golf Tour in 2010; he is playing at the World Golf Championship in Akron, Ohio this week and the PGA Championship in Atlanta next week.  A native of Korean, he won the Nagashima Shigeo Invitational Sega Sammy Cup earlier this year and has three other top-10 finishes on the Japan Golf Tour where he is a four-time winner.  He finished tied for 44th at the Masters this year.

Contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the seventh oldest event on the PGA TOUR.  Tickets are available at wyndhamchampionship.com, at Piedmont Triad Harris Teeter locations or through the tournament office.  The tournament thanks title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide, presenting sponsor BB&T and Premier Partners, Flow Automotive, Harris Teeter, McConnell Golf, Sunbrella® and VF Corporation for their continued support.  Additional tournament information, including ticket packages and sponsorship information, is available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office at (336) 379-1570.  For more information about Wyndham Worldwide, please visit www.wyndhamworldwide.com.
