Patrick Reed, 14th in the World, J.B. Holmes, 21st in the World, Join Wyndham Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Patrick Reed, eighth in FedExCup points, eighth in Ryder Cup points and 14th in the Official World Golf Rankings, and J.B. Holmes, seventh in Ryder Cup points, 21st in the Official World Golf Rankings and 36th in FedExCup points, will play next week’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today.  The 77th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 15-21, 2016 at Sedgefield Country Club.

These players join 2016 PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker, former Wyndham winner Brandt Snedeker, World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els, Wake Forest alumnus Bill Haas, U.S. Open champions Webb Simpson, Retief Goosen, Graeme McDowell, Jim Furyk, Angel Cabrera and Lucas Glover, PGA Championship winners Jason Dufner and David Toms, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Kevin Kisner, Kevin Na, William McGirt, former world No. 1 Luke Donald, World Golf Hall of Famer Vijay Singh, Open Championship winners Justin Leonard and Stewart Cink, former Wyndham winners Ryan Moore, Carl Pettersson, Camilo Villegas and Arjun Atwal, Scott Piercy, Harris English, Irish star Shane Lowry as well as Spanish stars Rafael Cabrera Bello and Jon Rahm in the field.

After finishing tied for 11th at the Travelers Championship last weekend, Reed moved from 10th to eighth in the United States Ryder Cup standings – the final automatic qualifier spot; the 2013 Wyndham Championship winner has two more tournaments to solidify his position.  The eight automatic qualifiers for the United States team will be announced Monday, Aug. 29 following the Barclays, the first FedExCup Playoff event which follows the Wyndham Championship; Davis Love III’s captain’s picks will be announced later.

Reed captured his first PGA TOUR victory here in 2013 following an epic two-hole playoff with 2015 FedExCup champion Jordan Spieth which is actually featured in this year’s Wyndham Championship program.  Reed is a four-time PGA TOUR winner with nine top-10 finishes including a runner-up at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii earlier this season.  Reed will make his fourth Wyndham Championship appearance.

Holmes, one of the longest hitters on the PGA TOUR, is currently seventh in Ryder Cup points.  The four-time PGA TOUR winner has had some excellent tournaments this year.  He finished third at the Open Championship, tied for fourth at the Masters and the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide and tied for sixth at the Farmers Insurance Open and the Waste Management Phoenix Open earlier this season. Holmes will make just his second Wyndham Championship appearance; he missed the end of the 2011 season for brain surgery but resumed play the next season.
