GREENSBORO, N.C. – The First Tee of the Triad and Stanford Financial Group are teaming up to bring 40 boys and girls from First Tee of the Triad to the Wyndham Championship free of charge. The 69th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-17, 2008.
First Tee of the Triad is a non-profit organization whose mission statement is to impact the lives of young people by providing the facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. A $125 annual fee covers expenses associated with use of the golf courses, the learning center and entrance into the First Tee Life Skills program. However, scholarships are available; no child is turned away due to financial need.
Stanford Financial Group will entertain clients at its luxury suite on the par-four 17th hole at Sedgefield Country Club during the PGA TOUR event, but on Thursday and Friday of tournament week, it will be occupied by children participating in activities sponsored by First Tee of the Triad. The young golf fans will be accompanied by 10 chaperones.
“We are delighted to host the First Tee youth at Stanford’s Wyndham Championship suite on Thursday and Friday of tournament week,” Eddie Rollins, Executive Director of the Carolinas for Stanford said. “These children have shown great enthusiasm for the game of golf and experiencing firsthand a PGA Tour event will only increase their excitement and interest in the sport. First Tee is a fantastic program and does an amazing job, not only teaching these children the game of golf, but the life-skills associated with it, such as honesty, integrity, and perseverance.”
The First Tee vision is to teach The First Tee Nine Core Values™ in hopes of touching the lives of young people in the community: integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, judgment and honesty. First Tee uses golf as the vehicle through which kids can accomplish their dreams, thrive socially, excel academically and athletically. Young people from all backgrounds can become productive members of society with integrity, strong family values and commitment to community.
“I can’t imagine a better way for some of our First Tee friends to experience the Wyndham Championship than in a luxury suite behind the 17th green,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “Our new partnership with Stanford is great for the Wyndham Championship, and the growth of First Tee of the Triad is extremely positive for the Piedmont Triad. We would like thank Stanford for providing this opportunity for these young golf fans.”
