Wyndham Championship Media Day Notes

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 71st annual Wyndham Championship is just three weeks away; below are some pre-tournament notes for the PGA TOUR event set for Aug. 16-22 at Sedgefield Country Club.

► The Field: With three weeks to go until tournament week, the Wyndham Championship field is still taking shape. As PGA TOUR golfers keep an eye on the FedExCup point standings, they will refine their schedules so it is still early. Among the players who have made recent commitments to play the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event are 2009 Wyndham winner Ryan Moore, 2008 winner Carl Pettersson, 2007 winner Brandt Snedeker, 2009 U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover, Stuart Appleby, Boo Weekley, David Duval, David Toms, two-time winner Rocco Mediate and Wake Forest alumni Webb Simpson and Bill Haas, Henrik Stenson and Richard Johnson, winner of last weekend’s Scandinavian Masters in Stockholm, Sweden. Four of the tournament’s eight sponsor exemptions have been given to 1990 Wyndham winner Steve Elkington, two-time major winner John Daly, High Point’s Drew Weaver and the winner of the AJGA FootJoy Invitational, Tanner Kesterson.

► New Parking: The Wyndham Championship has revised its parking arrangements. On Monday, Aug. 16 and Tuesday, Aug. 17, all public parking will be at Legacy Paddle Sports on High Point Road, just north of the intersection with Guilford College Road. Wednesday through Sunday of tournament week, the following parking arrangements will be available:
■ Legacy Paddle Sports will be the VIP Parking location only.
■ Public Parking will be located at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.
■ People who live in High Point, Jamestown or the Southern Piedmont will have access to
the South Parking lot located on Guilford College Road near High Point Road. Only
the top portion of this lot will be available.

► Television Times Expanded; Radio Times Announced: The Wyndham Championship will be a part of Golf Channel’s weekend bonus coverage for the first time this year. Golf Channel coverage will be 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on both Thursday, Aug. 19 and Friday, Aug. 20. For the third and fourth rounds on Saturday, Aug, 21 and 22, Golf Channel will provide bonus coverage from Noon until 1:30. ► Kelly King is Honorary Chair: Kelly S. King, chairman and CEO of BB&T Corporation, is the Wyndham Championship’s Honorary Chairman for the second consecutive year. As honorary chairman, King serves as ambassador for one of the PGA TOUR’s longest running events, which provides important economic benefits for the region and the state. King also provides valuable leadership to the Piedmont Triad region as chairman of the Piedmont Triad Partnership. The two go hand-in-hand as they both serve to promote and unite the people and businesses of the Piedmont Triad.

► BB&T Fan Pavilion: In a constant effort to improve the Wyndham Championship fan experience, the BB&T Fan Pavilion, a hospitality area for the masses, will debut this year. This 80 x 60 tent near the ninth green offers free admission to anyone with a ticket. The BB&T Fan Pavilion is a place for fans to get out of the sun and take a break from following the tournament. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. In the event of inclement weather, the BB&T Fan Pavilion will also be a refuge from the rain.

► Natty Greene’s Beer Garden and Party Deck: It’s the last of the three holes making up the “Sweet Spot” at Sedgefield Country Club, and it could very well be THE place to be during the Wyndham Championship. The Natty Greene’s Beer Garden and Party Deck Presented by Rock 92 will be located at the 17th green. It’s an open-air party deck with stadium seating, lunch, beer, wine and soft drinks, and a ticket includes grounds admission for the tournament. Tickets are $125 per day; for more information, please visit wyndhamchampionship.com

► Hospitality Sales Update: Wyndham Championship hospitality sales continue to sail along at a brisk pace. With three weeks remaining until the tournament, on-course hospitality venues at holes 10, 16, 17 and 18 are sold out. One skybox remains for sale at the par five 15th hole. The New Breed Logistics Pro-Am on Wednesday, Aug. 18 is sold out, but some teams remain for the Kevin Harvick Foundation Pro-Am presented by Technology Concepts & Design on Monday, Aug. 16. Some off-course hospitality is still available in the Champions Club located inside the Sedgefield Country Club clubhouse.

► Bring Your VIC Card: Wyndham Championship good-any-day tickets will be available at Piedmont Triad-area Harris Teeter stores beginning this Friday, July 30. Harris Teeter customers with a VIC card will receive a $10 discount on good-any-day tickets, making it $25 instead of the regular $35 price. ► Sunbrella Kid Zone: The Wyndham Championship Sunbrella Kid Zone returns this year. The new and improved version of the Kid Zone will include a third inflatable slide. Slushies will be available for sale with half of the proceeds going to Wishes by Wyndham, a charitable program from Wyndham Worldwide.
