GREENSBORO, N.C. – The inaugural Sports Illustrated Resorts Getaway 5K race will serve as the unofficial kickoff to Wyndham Championship week, the tournament announced today. The 86th annual Wyndham Championship is set for July 30-Aug. 3, 2025 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
Set for 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025 and presented by title sponsor Sports Illustrated Resorts, the Getaway 5K is a 3.1-mile race and walk amid Greensboro’s Sedgefield neighborhood and the Wyndham Championship course. Through the tournament’s presenting nonprofit organization, the Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation, proceeds from the Getaway 5K will benefit Western North Carolina Hurricane Helene relief.
The route starts at the Grandover Resort & Spa, a Wyndham Grand Hotel, after a kickoff performance by the Eastern Guilford High School band, and continues around the Sedgefield Country Club back nine before finishing at the reimagined 10th green, home of a new fan activation at the tournament. This area will host the after-party and awards celebration, featuring complimentary brunch snacks by Pepper Moon Catering, drinks, appearances by the Carolina Core FC and Greensboro Grasshoppers mascots, entertainment by DJ Hek Yeh!, games and more.
Celebrating the worlds of sports and travel, the Sports Illustrated Resorts Getaway 5K is open to runners/walkers of all ages. All registrants will receive an official race T-shirt (while supplies last), one ticket to the 2025 Wyndham Championship (round of choice) and entry to the post-race party and awards celebration along with a raffle ticket. Prizes for the overall male and female winners are multi-night resort vacation certificates while top placements in age groups will receive free hotel nights in the form of Wyndham Rewards points. A special prize will be awarded to the ultimate fan for best sportswear. The name of the winning team will be carved into a sand sculpture within the tournament grounds.
