GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest University alumnus Bill Haas, NC State University alumnus Carl Pettersson and Georgia Tech University alumnus Stewart Cink have joined the 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship field, the tournament announced today. The 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-17, 2014 at Sedgefield Country Club.
These players join a field that also includes former Wyndham winners Brandt Snedeker (2007), 2012 U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson (2011), defending champion Patrick Reed, Davis Love III (1992, 2006) and Rocco Mediate (1993, 2002), Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen, Tim Clark, Hideki Matsuyama and World Golf Hall of Famer Fred Couples. 2014 winners Brian Harman, Matt Every, Chesson Hadley, Scott Stallings and Steve Bowditch are also now in the field.
Haas is the 2011 FedExCup champion; the Charlotte native has made nine previous Wyndham Championship appearances. His best Wyndham finish came in 2012 when he finished tied for seventh. He is a five-time PGA TOUR winner. Haas is currently 37th in the FedExCup point standings and 37th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Pettersson won the Wyndham in 2008, the year it returned to Sedgefield Country Club after 31 years at Forest Oaks Country Club. Pettersson set multiple course records in 2008. His second-round 61 set the mark for lowest second round and lowest 18-hole score; two golfers have since tied that record. He set the record for low 36 holes (125), low 54 holes (191) and low 72 holes (259). Pettersson, who played Sedgefield yesterday, lives in Raleigh now but grew up in Greensboro and attended Grimsley High School. He is currently 80th in the FedExCup point standings and 156th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is a five-time PGA TOUR winner.
Cink won the Open Championship in 2009 following a playoff with Tom Watson. He won the 2004 World Golf Championships NEC Invitational among his six PGA TOUR victories. He has five previous Wyndham Championship appearances and is playing the Wyndham for the second time in as many years. He has represented the United States on five Ryder Cup teams and four Presidents Cup teams. He is 98th in the current FedExCup point standings and 149th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
