GREENSBORO, N.C. – – Justin Thomas finished tied for tied for 37th at the PGA Championship and clinched the $2 Million Wyndham Rewards Top 10 bonus as the FedExCup regular-season winner, but Webb Simpson and Sungjae Im enter this week’s Wyndham Championship with a shot at the $1.5 Million second-place bonus. The 81st annual Wyndham Championship, which will determine the outcome of the $10 Million Wyndham Rewards Top 10, starts Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
Collin Morikawa eagled the 16th hole at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco late Sunday to win the PGA Championship. With the win, Morikawa jumped four spots and moved to second place in the FedExCup and Wyndham Rewards Top 10 standings. Morikawa is not playing this week’s Wyndham Championship, so should Simpson or Im win this week’s tournament, either could move to second place and claim the $1.5 Million second-place bonus.
In addition, Lanto Griffin, Abraham Ancer (13), Sebastián Muñoz (16), Adam Long (24), Joaquin Niemann (25) and Harris English (28) are also playing the Wyndham Championship, and with a good finish, each can move into the Wyndham Rewards Top 10.
Brooks Koepka, who is playing this week’s Wyndham Championship, claimed the $2 Million first-place bonus in the inaugural $10 million Wyndham Rewards Top 10 Bonus last season. The Wyndham Rewards Top 10 not only adds drama to the Wyndham Championship as the final event before the FedExCup Playoffs but also puts an even greater premium on excelling over the course of the FedExCup Regular Season.
