2012 Champion Sergio Garcia Will Return to Defend Wyndham Title

GREENSBORO, N.C. – 2012 Wyndham Championship winner Sergio Garcia will return to Sedgefield Country Club in August to defend his Wyndham title, it was announced today.   The 74th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 12-18, 2013.

Garcia took a one-shot lead into the final round of last year’s Wyndham and won by two shots over Tim Clark shooting a 4-under 66 in the final round; it was his first win on TOUR since the 2008 PLAYERS Championship. Garcia is currently 15th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 55th in the FedExCup point standings.  The eight-time PGA TOUR winner will be making his fifth Wyndham Championship appearance.

“I am really happy to defend my title at the Wyndham Championship in August,” Garcia said. “I have always enjoyed playing at Sedgefield from my days as an amateur. Wyndham has done a great job over the years putting together a great event, and the fans have made it a great week every time I have played there.”

“Having Sergio back to defend his title is a huge deal for the Wyndham Championship,” tournament director Mark Brazil said.  “Sergio is one of the biggest draws in professional golf so his decision to defend his title is a testament to how much he likes our event and Sedgefield.  We are thrilled that Sergio would commit this early setting the stage for another great Wyndham field.”
