D.H. GRIFFIN HOSTS PIEDMONT TRIAD FIRST RESPONDERS AT WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP

GREENSBORO, N.C. – In honor of next month’s 10th anniversary of 9/11, Piedmont Triad first responders will be admitted free of charge to the 2011 Wyndham Championship courtesy of D.H. Griffin Companies, it was announced today.  The 72nd annual Wyndham Championship presented by BB&T is set for Aug, 15-21 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

The Piedmont Triad community is well aware of the role D.H. Griffin Companies played in the cleanup following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on Sept. 11, 2001.  Company president David Griffin went to “Ground Zero” soon after the cleanup began, spent a few days and soon, D.H. Griffin Companies began playing a major role in the cleanup following the devastating assault.  For the next 19 months, D.H. Griffin personnel worked alongside New York-area first responders and other contractors to clean up the worst terrorist attack ever carried out on United States soil.

In honor of the upcoming 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attack, D.H. Griffin Companies is underwriting the cost for all Piedmont Triad first responders and a guest to attend the 2011 Wyndham Championship free of charge.  It is one of several ways the Greensboro-based company is honoring the 10th anniversary of the attacks.  Fire Fighters, Emergency Medical Technicians and Law Enforcement Officers need only show a valid identification card to be admitted free with one guest Wednesday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 21.

“We worked side-by side with the first responders at ‘Ground Zero’ 24 hours a day, seven days a week for 19 months after the 9/11 attacks happened,” D.H. Griffin Companies president David Griffin said.  “We got to be friends with a lot of the first responders, and it’s amazing what they do every day.  Even on their days off, they carry pagers and are prepared to go to work if they are needed; it’s the lifestyle they have chosen.

“Our first responders here in the Piedmont Triad make that same commitment; they’re critical to our everyday life.  You hope you never need them, but you’re sure glad they’re around when you do. Our company has been very blessed, and we wanted to step up and thank our local first responders for putting their lives on the line every day for all of us.  They have some of the most dangerous jobs in America, and we are glad to be able to support them in the jobs they do. They are true heroes; we are proud to be able to do this as a small ‘thank you’ for their bravery.”

Contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is the seventh oldest event on the PGA TOUR.  Tickets are available at wyndhamchampionship.com, at Piedmont Triad Harris Teeter locations or through the tournament office.  The tournament thanks title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide, presenting sponsor BB&T and Premier Partners, Flow Automotive, Harris Teeter, McConnell Golf, Sunbrella® and VF Corporation for their continued support.  Additional tournament information, including ticket packages and sponsorship information, is available at wyndhamchampionship.com or through the tournament office at (336) 379-1570.  For more information about Wyndham Worldwide, please visit www.wyndhamworldwide.com.
